Red Hatters in WA

Red/Pink Hatters in WA is a group of women who pursue fun, friendship, frivolity, food and “fruits of the vine” to ensure they get the most out of life.

The primary purpose of Red/Pink Hatters in WA is social interaction and bonding among women. Often, in the early part of their lives, women give their all to family, career, and community…and they enjoy it. However, sometimes along the way their existing bonds of friendship slowly diminish. Joining a Red Hat Group can lead to reconnecting with old friends, making new friends and rediscovering the joy of getting together with other women, for the express purpose of having fun.

Red/Pink Hatters in WA encourages a positive outlook , through the sisterhood of a local group. Members gather in large and small local groups to have fun, socialize and support one another. Each group has a Queen and members with varied interests and from different walks of life, who come together to have fun and support one another. Group events are varied – they can range from in-home gatherings, community based tours, theatre outings, to huge conventions…in other words our activities are only limited by our imagination.

The concept for the Red Hat Society came from the poem Warning by Jenny Joseph

It starts:
“When I am an old woman I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me?…”

The poem says “I shall…run my stick along the public railings and make up for the sobriety of my youth…”. In a nutshell grow old disgracefully!

Red Hat ladies love to dress up and when they go out together they wear the colours mentioned in the poem,  a purple outfit with a red hat. These are vibrant colours and when you go out wearing them, that’s exactly how you feel….vibrant!

To be a Red Hatter you have to be 50 years young and over, but we welcome ladies who are still working towards that milestone to come and join us as “Pinkies” – Pink Hatters.
